Enumclaw is a quaint small town I grew up in and after living in the ‘big city’ for 15 years I am so blessed to be home again! I am reinventing my grandparents farm and I have a small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) i.e. box of produce pick up off the farm every Friday. At Open Farm Friday you can experience the farm with just a self guided tour and tasting of the garden. I can take kids around and we talk about food, compost, animals and sometimes whatever they want to. Parents and kids can venture around the farm and visit the laying hens, the mini horses, and my 2 labs, Libby and Zyla, explore what is growing what food looks like in it’s first form (you know before the store!). People often come and say “what is there to do?” What events do you have? I love that because there really is nothing more than the experience of the tour, the scenery, the growing of wonderful fresh food, seedlings, and tasting some of the many flavors. And you know what the kids leave loving it and amazed and I hope with a little memory in their subconscious mind to maybe do this someday themselves. I think they think about it and it is a grand possibility because I remember my experience of the farm days and look where I am now. One moment at a time.
