I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done something on the farm to fix a situation and then find myself undoing it a few months or sometimes weeks later. Hours spent putting up bird netting to keep chickens off my new transplants in the garden, a goat fence and barriers around my orchard trees because I didn’t know goats would eat the bark off of the trees — I just thought they would look cute in the orchard by the road for the people walking by. Or the bunny escape-proof shelter to keep the bunny from getting eaten by a predator. The list is endless! The moral of the story is you learn something with every mistake made, and you grow within yourself when you can just go with the moment. There are also those ‘chance moments’ when the light bulb goes on like a reflective ten second pause before you speak (which I’m still learning to do). It is those 10 seconds that can change a whole outcome of a situation from bad to awwwhhh thank goodness I kept that to myself. These lessons, they all become an opportunity that one day you when you have left this earth, you might be remembered for being that person that could laugh at your own mistakes, as well as leave someone else a small heads up of what ‘not to do’. This is maybe a bit of what I hope might happen when I’m remembered. I am excited to begin this new season of farming and self discovery with those that love me for being who I am and forgiving me for who I might have been perceived to be or flat out wrong. My friends and farming are my life and I am so Blessed to be in this moment of it all ~ J
